Two Thousand and Seventeen.
So its March. March. How on earth did that happen? I usually try and get my highlights done in January but I decided this year to take some time off and take a step back. I can be so critical of my work when I am right there in it, living it, face to lens. I only see faults – Technical/mood/colour and sometimes the occasional shot of my hair covering the lens, its not my fault I have wild sheepy hair. 🙂 Distance gives me perspective and appreciation.
I LOVE that photography becomes more valuable with age. I love that you can initially not like a photo of yourself only to return to it later and realise that you are in fact lovely. I have a photo of me as a child that I love, now its technically not the best and I am not looking at the camera but there is something about it that I love. I think I look (bare with me on this one) like how I remember being as a child. I know it doesn’t make much sense but its the only way I can describe it. That photo was probably considered a dud at the time and yet I love it so much. Photography is magical. Time makes it incalculably valuable.
I am still so passionate about creating work that is timeless and full of love. These are the driving forces behind my work. I am a total ‘moments over mountains’ girl and I am finally ok with that. I will never tire of taking those ‘blink of the eye’ moments of love between two people.
A special lady featured below who is no longer with us requested a photo I took of her sons be buried with her. For me thats enough. I don’t need awards or destination weddings or magazine features. I want the moments to be treasured. Thats what truly matters to me.
Were you a 2017 bride/groom of mine? Thank you. From my heart to yours I thank you so much for letting me live this dream. Each and every one of you were amazing.
(if you take the time to get to the end of this very long post you shall be rewarded with that special photo I love so much, wild sheepy hair and all)
YOU MADE IT. Congratulations. (I still have these exact same thighs)
